5 x Human Armatures with Hinge & Standard Link Plate Assemblies
Designed with Anodised Aluminium Hip and Shoulder Blocks, 6mm Hinge & Standard Link Plate Assemblies, solid (nickel plated) Steel Limbs and Stud Ends. This makes the INDY HINGE armature more robust and eliminating ball/joint failure. During assembly the feet, backbone, shoulder and hip stud ends are secured using Loctite 270 high strength thread lock. All armatures are available with Brass or Stainless Steel Link Plate Assemblies.

Hinge Joints
The following anodised aluminium link plate assemblies have one hinge socket joint to provide a more realistic skeletal movement:

  • H1 & H2 - Knee, Hip, Elbow and Upper Arm
  • H3, H4 & H5 - Knee, Hip and Elbow

What's in the Box
When you purchase one of our armatures it comes fully assembled and is ready to go straight from the box. The armature is supplied with an Allen Key for adjusting the tension of the joints, two M3x12mm tie down screws, two 50mm Standard Tie Down Assemblies and a 75mm length of studding with lock nuts and washers for rigging your armature.

Model INDY-H1 (Hinge): Standing 240mm tall to the shoulders this adult human armature has solid, nickel plated, steel limbs and anodised aluminium hip and shoulder blocks. It has a double jointed back with standard hips and a modified shoulder design allowing for more complex human movements. The hip block has a single M3 rigging point and each foot has an M3 tie down point plus the ability to use magnetic hold down if required. The knee, hip, lower and upper arms have hinged, anodised aluminium, link plate assemblies allowing for more realistic skeletal movement. The ankles, back, upper shoulders and neck have standard link plates assemblies that can be either brass or stainless steel. All Link Assemblies are secured with an M3x8mm stainless steel screw. Component parts of the feet, hip and shoulder block assemblies are secured using high strength Loctite 270 thread lock.

Model INDY-H2 (Hinge): Standing 220mm tall to the shoulders this adult human armature has solid, nickel plated, steel limbs and anodised aluminium hip and shoulder blocks. The Hinge Link Plate Assembly comprises 2 Link Plates, one tapped M3 and one with a clearance hole. When assembled using an M3 Stainless Steel Screw one end of the joint is locked giving a more realistic skeletal movement.

Malvern Armatures - Stop Motion Animation - INDY Steel Double Ball End

The nickel plated steel limbs on the INDY Range of Armatures comprise a 6mm diameter precision machined steel ball with a 3mm diameter connecting rod. The limbs come in a range of sizes: 70mm; 60mm; 45mm; 40mm; 35mm; 30mm; 15mm & 10mm depending on the armature being built.

Malvern Armatures - Stop Motion Animation - INDY Steel Stud Ends

The nickel plated steel stud ends on the INDY Range of Armatures comprise a 6mm diameter precision machined steel ball, a 3mm diameter connecting rod and an M3 threaded stud. The studs screw into the Feet, Shoulder and Hip Blocks and are secured using Loctite 270 high strength thread lock.

The stud ends come in a range of sizes: 11.5mm; 15.0mm; 19.5mm & 24.5mm depending on the armature being built.

IMalvern Armatures - Stop Motion Animation - INDY Hip and Shoulder Blocks

The anodised aluminium shoulder & hip blocks on the INDY Range of Armatures have M3 tapped holes that are used to connect the stud ends using Loctite 270 high strength thread lock. The hip block also has an M3 rigging point that can be used with our Rigging System.

What are the differences between our Armature Ranges?

The INDY Hinge Range: The INDY Hinge Range of Armatures have a combination of Standard & Hinged Link Plate Assemblies. The joints on the Lower Knees, Hips and Arms are HINGED to provide a more realistic skeletal movement. The armature is assembled using machined nickel plated solid steel limbs and stud ends with 6mm ball joints combined with anodised aluminium shoulder and hip blocks eliminating the need for thread locked link/ball assemblies.
The INDY 6 Range: The INDY 6 Range of Armatures uses Standard Link Plate Assemblies and is assembled using machined nickel plated solid steel limbs and stud ends with 6mm ball joints combined with anodised aluminium shoulder and hip blocks eliminating the need for thread locked link/ball assemblies.
The INDY 9 Range: The INDY 9 Range of Armatures have a combination of Standard & Hinged Link Plate Assemblies. The joints on the Lower Knees, Hips and Arms are HINGED to provide a more realistic skeletal movement. The backbone comprises a 9mm brass & steel joint and 4mm diameter upper and lower back components for extra strength. The rest of the armature is assembled using 3mm machined nickel plated solid steel limbs and stud ends with 6mm ball joints combined with brass shoulder and hip blocks eliminating the need for thread locked link/ball assemblies.
The BESPOKE Range: The Bespoke Range of Armatures uses a combination of INDY or Professional components depending on the armature being built.
